Commander Chase Leonard began his law enforcement career in 2015 at the Canon City Police Department. In his time at the Canon City Police Department, Commander Leonard has served as a Patrol Officer, a Detective, a Patrol Sergeant, and the Detective Sergeant prior to his promotion to Commander in May of 2023, where he now oversees the Support Services Division.

Commander Leonard has served as a Field Training Officer, the Field Training Coordinator, a driving Instructor, an FBI Defensive Tactics Instructor, and a firearms Instructor. He was the Crime Stoppers Coordinator for CCPD for several years, served on a Policy Review Committee and as a Recruitment Team Member. Commander Leonard has attended the FBI’s Rocky Mountain Command College, the Transform Law Enforcement Colloquium hosted by the University of Kentucky Police Department, and the Credible Leadership Program through the National Command and Staff College.

As the Commander for the Support Services Division Chase Leonard currently oversees the Administrative Sergeant, the Evidence Unit (consisting of 2 Digital Evidence Technicians and 1 Physical Evidence Technician), the Community Services Unit (consisting of a CSO supervisor and 4 CSOs), the Community Engagement Coordinator, the Chaplain, and the Co-Response Unit (consisting of 1 Clinician and 2 Navigators). He is the DRMO liaison, submits crime data to NIBRS, and oversees all programs utilized by CCPD to include RMS, Flock, PowerEngage, CrimeWatch, Leads Online, and Citizen Contact. Commander Leonard also currently serves as a Co-Chair on the CCPD Awards Committee and as an assistant to the Volunteer Program Manager.
